All artwork that you see on this page was created by me
using graphics programs such as Amapi, Bryce, Carrara, Hexagon, and Poser.
Most images also have post-work done in Photoshop Elements. A variety of
programs, including MS Paint and Wood Workshop, were used to create
transmaps and some textures. Some images use procedural textures, but I've
started using more image maps lately. Please free to contact me with questions about any images you see here.

Slimy,
green tentacles twine around a metronome with an eye for the arm weight.
The inscription, written in Arabic, reads, "That is not dead which can
eternal lie, and with strange eons, even death may die." The inscription
is a quote from the H.P. Lovecraft short story, "The Nameless City."
Created with Amapi and Carrara. |
One of my first 3D images, this picture of
an ancient coin held in an eerie sky by a tentacle was based on the
cover of
Cthulhu Invictus, which I illustrated, edited, and
co-wrote. Created with Bryce. |
An older
man, fallen on a stone floor, stares blankly, a set of bone panpipes
still lying in his outstretched hand. Created with Poser, Amapi, and
Carrara. |
An African woman
bangs on a wooden and leather drum; the shadow behind her is not hers,
but that of a winged beast. Created with Poser, Amapi, and Carrara.
Significant post-work in Photoshop Elements. |
Salmagundi
A salmagundi is a hodgepodge, mish-mash, or gallimaufry. In other
words, a bunch of random stuff all mixed together. These images are ones
that don't fit any particular category. Some I created for contests,
others by request, and many because an idea just struck me.

This

digital photo that I took. |
Originally created for a landscape contest, this image was done in
Carrara 5 Pro with postwork in PSPX. |

Tests
On occasion I'll create an image to test something for someone who's
having problem in a program or wants to know how a certain feature of a
graphics app works; or when I'm learning something new; or as part of a
beta testing cycle. I also create test images of new items that I've
modeled, to see how they're going to look rendered. Instead of just
putting the item on a gray background, I usually cobble together a
makeshift set of walls and a table of shelf.

a black background. The result of two tutorials, one on modeling a
realistic eyeball, and one on texturing it. Created with Amapi and
Carrara. |
A
green and yellow felt coxcomb, or jester's cap, with gold bells. Modeled
in Hexagon 2.1, textured, lighted, and rendered in Carrara 5 Pro. Click

If
you want to learn UV mapping in Carrara, check out
Andrew Benson's
tutorials on it. I've never been able to get the hang of UV mapping, but
after just the first three I was able to UV map and texture the pencil
in this image. Thanks, Andrew! |

Old, rusty screws and nails scattered on the

I created the nail and screw because someone needed them and wanted to
know how to model them. |

volumetric clouds. Created with Carrara. |
A hotly glowing ember.

A
kitten playing with a toy mouse. This image uses the C5Pro scene filter
Toon! Part III. The kitten is the DAZ Toonimal Kitty and the toy mouse
is one that I modeled in Hexagon. Ultimately, I'll set all shaders to
flat white for this image and re-render it to create coloring book pages
for ARFP. |
