Jeanne d'Arc
Joan of Arc, in armor with her sword, kneels in prayer before heading to
battle. This image won the CarraraFan 2007 NSNVIATWAS Image contest. As I was researching Joan of Arc while planning the image, I found myself getting angry not only at her unfair trial, but also at why she was executed -- for wearing men's clothes,
something the church had granted her permission to do in her efforts to defend
France.
The image to the left is the "trophy" that I won, a virtual wire sculpture
modeled and rendered by Matthew Link. He had to work to get the honor of
presenting this trophy to me, since CF deciding to make creating the trophies a
contest in itself. Matthew's was picked as the winner, and I certainly agree
with that choice.
