A Call to Destiny

by Andi Newton
Inspired by the adventures of Gilford Iamsson  in the world of LOTRO

Gilford Iamsson had always loved Gondor, Kingdom of the South and city of his birth. Her white towers were home, and always would be.

When the time came to pursue an apprenticeship, Gilford practiced with sword and axe, mastering them so he could serve Gondor as a member of the elite Guard of Minas Tirith, the guard of the Tower of Gondor. From the day he joined their ranks, he wore the silver and black with pride, and quickly earned the respect of his fellow guardsmen.

But his love of Gondor paled in comparison with his devotion to Eru Ilúvatar, the One. When he felt the deity's call to travel north, Gilford begged Denethor II, the steward of Gondor, for leave to make the journey.

Though the Guard and the city itself would feel Gilford's absence deeply, Denethor knew the depth of the man's faith and the truth of his words. He bade Gilford travel quickly and safely, and urged him to return to Gondor when his task was done.

And so Gilford travels north, though he knows not where or why. Along the way he battles the forces of Angmar and Mordor, the enemies of the light. All the while, he follows the vision that Illúvatar sent him, knowing that when the time is right the god will reveal the reason for his quest. When he has fulfilled his destiny, Illúvatar willing, he will return to Gondor to serve and protect her once again, and, in doing so, serve Eru Illúvatar himself.
