Shelley
by Andrea M. Newton
Imitation of
"The Poet" by John Keats
Here's the Poet! see him! see him!
All the world! that you may know him!
See the one who with all men
Is more equal, whether Prince,
Beggar, saint, or worst of sin,
Or any other who has hence
Sprung from Heaven's holy womb.
He blends man one 'twixt ape and Plato,
Glories life from birth to tomb
Persecuted by his fellow
Man though he may be; left alone
To celebrate his pittance joy
And fight man's coldness, chilled to bone;
Whether he be man or boy,
Shouts life's worth to all the world.
